Equity
Student should not make a distinction against any groups of different age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, race or ethnicity, political view, or religious belief; neither in their behavior nor in their designs or discourses.
Universal Design
As the future designers and planners who are going to design the environments and objects that disabled people will use; students are expected to understand the needs and disabilities of the handicapped people, and design to remove the barriers of them.
Animal Rights
Students must be respectful to the non-human inhabitants (e.g. cats, etc.) and plants of the Taşkışla building.
Sustainability
Considering the limited resources of the Earth, students are expected to show environmental responsibility to maintain a sustainable future.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is using other people’s original ideas, words, or work without giving them credit. All students should avoid plagiarism by any means. If you are going to use someone else’s work or idea as a part of your work, you should cite the original author and give a link to his work if possible.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Emergencies and Injuries
All students are obliged to fill an “Emergency Information Form” if handed out by the faculty, which truthfully states health condition, medical alert information, and an emergency contact. If you witness an emergency status (studio injuries, fainting, epileptic attack, etc.), inform an instructor or any school authority as soon as possible.
Hazardous Sprays
Use of instant adhesives (cyanoacrylate glues and activator sprays), spray painting, or using any sort of aerosol sprays are prohibited in the Taşkışla building.
Electrical Safety
Limit the number of plugged in electrical devices to what is necessary. Do not overload the plugs and the electrical network. Electrical extension cords and PC cords must be kept off of the floor to avoid any tripping hazard. Plug off any electrical equipment when not in use. Make sure your desks and chairs don’t crush any wires. Avoid using worn wires or broken plug sockets. Inform the technicians in case of a disturbance. Do not interfere with the black electrical switches unless you are told by an instructor.
Blade Safety
Use your blades (utility knives, scissors, etc.) with utmost care. Most of the studio injuries are caused by these knives. Used utility knife blades pose a danger to cleaning staff and cats who live in the building. Do not leave used blades on the work surfaces or the ground, and avoid placing them directly into the trash bins. Collect used blades in a sealed container (e.g. a labelled soda can or a jar), then dispose or recycle properly.
Night Use
Students who want to work in the Taşkışla building at night must fill a formal application and get approval from the Faculty of Architecture. Students who stay at night should only use the rooms that are assigned to them, stick to the hours declared in their permission, and follow the studio rules and equipment care principles.
STUDIO BEHAVIOR
Student Desks
Studio desks must be left clean at the end of each studio, ready to accommodate the next session. Students must take all their belongings and trash with them as they leave their desks. Studio desk surfaces must be guarded against any harm.
Cutting Boards
Cutting on any desk top surfaces, tables or counters without a cutting mat is strictly prohibited. Students are responsible to have and bring a cutting mat to all studio courses.
Studio Cleaning
Studios must be left clean of any materials at the end of each class. Any materials and past projects should not be stored in the studio unless it is officially told by an instructor. At the end of the semester, students must leave the studio space clean.
Recycling
All residue / scrap materials should be properly reused or sorted to be recycled. For sustainable practices, Albırak participation is encouraged.
Caring for Taşkışla
Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism lists the Taşkışla building as a “Group I Immovable Cultural Heritage”. Students must not damage, mistreat, put its safety at risk, or show lack of respect towards the Taşkışla building in any manner.
Work Area and Hours
In studio classes, students are expected to immediately set up a fully operational working space for drawing and model making and maintain it during studio hours. Students must be present in the class during the studio hours having come prepared with assignments done, and participate in studio works and discussions.
Studio spaces will be ventilated regularly during and after the studio due to the pandemic. All students must leave the space during these designated times. Lingering cannot be allowed. All courses are to end ten minutes prior to scheduled times to facilitate this.
Noise and Distraction Control
In order to maintenance of the shared working environment, students should show courtesy to others by keeping their voices low, and showing no loud behavior. Audio equipment (music players, notebook computer, etc.) are only permitted when used with personal headphones.
Mobile Devices
Mobile devices are only allowed for course related uses. Mobile phone ringers must be turned off during the studio hours. Students should avoid any kind of distraction avoid in the studio environment.
